Luke Mudgway capped off a successful overseas stint after achieving a stage win and finishing 3rd overall at the Tour of China which wrapped up on Sunday.
The UCI 2.1 tour was contested by strong teams from across Europe and Asia over six stages. The relatively flat parcour meant that the general classification battle was always extremely close with the time bonuses from also intermediate sprints hotly contested.
Luke’s win on stage three placed him on equal time with race leader Ricardo Stacchiotti (Nippo Fantini) but it was Androni Giacattoli – Sidermec sprinter Marco Benfatto who re-asserted his authority with a win in stage 4 and and then stage 5 to add to his stage 2 victory. This put him well on top in general classification with Ricardo Sacchiotti finishing second just ahead of Luke.
That concludes our big block of racing abroad for 2016. To spend that amount of time away from loved ones and in each others pockets isn’t easy but the boys have rolled with the punches and given everything for each other. It’s been a fantastic experience for the whole team with everyone learning a lot and improving greatly across the duration of the trip.
