Dyball Retains Yellow After Successful South West Expedition + Video

Avanti Racing Team’s Ben Dyball retained his lead in the 2014 Tour of Tasmania after an intelligent ride by his team. The boys chose to let a break go which effectively nullified time bonuses from KOM’s and Sprints then reduced the gap enough so as not to give to much time to highest placed rider Wes Sulzberger.

The 119km stage from remote Strathgordon to New Norfolk in the picturesque Derwent Valley would see riders take on the reverse of last years stage. What was widely considered to be an easier direction, especially with the gradient south westerly wind was still a significant hurdle but one that the team can look back on in the knowledge that they managed to defend with relative ease.

Spectators were greeted  by the familiar sight of Avanti blue jerseys leading the peloton with Marko, Chris and Taylor doing the lions share of the pace making. In the finish Wes Sulzberger took out the win with fellow escapee Ben O’Connor followed by the bunch 48 seconds behind.
