Diary – Tour Of Borneo Day Five – Tabriz TTT

The final stage of this years tour was a run from the incredible Mount Kinabalu back to the city. On paper in looked like a high speed descent all the way but the reality was that there was still close to 1000m of climbing to contend with.

A group with 4 Tabriz riders powered off the front with Joe, John Esben (Baku) and Kadimov (UZB) along for the ride. They then proceeded to teams time trial all the way to the finish. I’m not joking! They never looked for help, never slowed down and never looked like faltering despite their efforts from the previous day and preceeding days spent controlling the peloton.

Joe hit out from 1km to go and only Sorhabi and the Uzbekistan rider could follow. Sorhabi took the win followed by Kadimov and then Joe. Joe finished the tour in 3rd which was a fantastic effort. Nathan was 5th, Jai 7th and Sam 8th. The team took second in Teams Classification to Tabriz and Nathan was third in the KOM to Tabriz.

Despite our open condemnation of Tabriz and their superhuman riding we thought the race organisation was first class. Borneo is a beautiful place and we were well looked after. Hopefully the organisers will see that the Tabriz performance was a little too good and protect their race by not inviting them next year if so we’ll be back for sure!
